You onlyjust have to have a scroll through my Pinterest to see I’m a great lover of street style. I often think I get more excited for fashion week to see what people are wearing to the shows, rather than what’s actually going down the catwalk. Street style is a huge part of my fashion life, after all my main source of style inspiration is seeing what the girls on my course show up to seminars in. Street style has always been the best way of trend forecasting, and spotting style inspo from the streets worldwide.
I recently read a Who Wore What article about street style trends happening worldwide in 2018. I find it so interesting seeing what trends are happening everywhere, not just on the streets of Notts, so I thought I’d share some of them here too.
Cowboy boots – who knew these would ever be cool somewhere other than in a Western film? Probably not a trend I’m going to jump on personally, but I kind of like seeing this more modern, chic take on cowboy boots popping up in stores and the streets alike.
I could of told you yellow was a major trend in 2018 after living with one of my flatmates for the past year. You know those friends who wear a certain trend so often, that when you see similar items in store you immediately want to buy it for them? That’s how I feel about yellow, so I’ve noticed the abundance of yellow clothing both on the street and in store more than ever (and also worn in my uni flat a lot!). I’m into this trend, but maybe I’m a bit biased, I just don’t think you can beat a nice sunshine-y feel when it comes to clothing.
Logo’s are also everywhere, which is good news for my label obsessed brother. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been too into wearing clothes just because they have a designer label splashed across them, but if you’re a designer clothing junkie this is the trend for you.
These are just three of the street style trends identified within the article, (which is a great read if you’re interested), and now you think about it you can probably realise that you’ve seen these trends everywhere too. I’m not saying these are things you have to wear in order to be deemed ‘trendy’, but they’re definitely a good starting point for you own style inspiration.
If you’re interested in street style, a great documentary to watch is ‘Bill Cunningham New York’, about the late, great, New York based street style photographer Bill Cunningham. I won’t give too much away, but Bill’s passion for street style, and the success he had in it, really solidified it’s importance in the fashion world in my mind.
It’s clear to see street style will always be a main component of fashion. After all, we the general public, are the best models of all, and the streets are our catwalk – without us there would be no fashion trends to follow at all!
Until next time,
