The Rise of Athleisure

The Rise of Athleisure

Athleisure, for those of you that have no idea what I’m talking about, is a fashion trend where in people are wearing work out gear all day, every day. Forget wearing yoga pants just to yoga class, now people are wearing them to go shopping, to spend time with their friends, even when partying. It’s a trend popularised by the Instagram model, and one I’m fully on board with. Forget squeezing into skinny jeans and a crop top, now it’s fully acceptable for me to leave the house in an over sized hoodie and some leggings, and still have people think I’m trendy (or as trendy as I can be at least!)

I’m sure you know what style of outfits I’m talking about. High wasted tracksuit pants, a bandeau and some chunky dad-esque trainers. The looks are everywhere – even I’m guilty of owning some tracksuit bottoms after deeming them chavvy for 18 years of my life! There’s millions of options out there, with brands everywhere catering for the sudden interest in looking gym chic. There’s Beyonce’s brand Ivy Park, which only consists of clothes you can go for a run in, and look cute at the same time. Pretty Little Thing and Missguided seem to have leggings with stripes down the sides in every single colour. Suddenly Reebok and Fila are cool trainers to wear again. Everything I grew up believing was chav-tastic has been made to look kind of cool in 2018.

Whilst my mum thinks trackies and heels is never a good look, A-List celebs seem to disagree. Below are some of my favourite celebrity athlesiure looks. Whilst Gigi Hadid being everywhere at the moment can be somewhat annoying (and arguably undeserved), it’s fair to say she’s the queen of athleisure, with sister Bella, and Kendall Jenner following in her footsteps (obviously celeb stylists love this trend too!)

Overall, any trend that has me tempted to buy some cycling shorts is clearly a good, if not confusing, one! Athlesiure shows no signs of slowing down, so I guess we’d all better get used to seeing tracksuits and trainers everywhere. Now if only this trend could convince me to actually go to the gym!

Until next time,
